Tough Night At Scotia
That's Racin'
After a solid showing the week before at Scotia and a move up to 6th in the points the momentum turned Friday in Halifax.
The #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero ran well in practice and finished 4th
in the first heat of the night. Ryan Mackintosh grabbed 5th on
the grid for the feature and ran very well for six laps before running
into trouble.
The #24 Bandolero collided with the #3 car in turn two after another
car spun in exiting turn two. The #24 was on the outside of the
turn attempting to pass the #3 when it checked up and #24 got
into the back of the #3.
The damage to the car was repaired in the pits and Ryan was back out on
track and passed three cars on the first lap after the restart.
Unfortunately, the officials blacked flagged the #24 due to the
damage causing the car to run without a bumper.
The #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero will be back in action next Friday at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax.

Friday the 13th Not So Unlucky
Tight finish and a good run up front
Ryan
Mackintosh's #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero enjoyed a solid night on it's
second outing of the season at Scotia Speedworld. The Amherst
driver finished the qualifying heat in 4th place and was able to drive
though the pack to finish 7th out of 15 in the feature. The
Bandolero feature was restarted twice after two incidents saw cars
spin. Mackintosh avoided the #1 car of Brad Eddy after his car
spun in turn 4 and was able to move up to finish only 4 car lengths
behind the winner #8 D.J. Casey. The margin between Mackintosh
and the winning car was less than two seconds at the line.
The results are even more impressive considering Mackintosh has to come
from the back of the 16 car pack because of his "Rookie" designation.
The #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero will be back in action this Friday
night at Scotia Speedworld as Mackintosh competes in AMP Energy
Night.

Mackintosh Takes Second
Weather Finally Cooperates
The
rain finally stopped just in time for qualifying at the first event of
the AKRS Liteco Series. The first stop at Burlington PEI took
place on a green track that saw good races in all divisions.
The Novice Division had the #6 of Alex VanSnick take the pre-final and
feature over the #24 RMR Kart of Ryan Mackintosh. The feature saw
some tight racing in the first three laps with Mackintosh taking the
lead in turn one from the polesitter VanSnick. VanSnick grabbed
the lead back a lap later and was able to open up a healthy lead and

Visit To Mooresville, Charlotte and Darlington
600 Racing and Hendrick highlight
Ryan
Mackintosh took time out of the busy pre-season practice season to
visit Mooresville, Charlotte and the Dodge Charger 500 at Darlington
this past week.
Visits to race teams throughout the area were on the schedule but the
trip was highlighted by two encounters with individuals who live and
work in the fast paced world of racing.
Jules Moss, Business Development Manager for The Jeff Gordon
Foundation, took time out of her busy schedule to spend an evening with
Ryan and the rest of the R.M.R. team in Mooresville. Jules
generously presented Ryan with some gifts from the "other #24"
team.

Ryan Mackintosh and Jules Moss (Business Development Manager, The Jeff Gordon Foundation)
The following day, Lowe's Motor Speedway and 600 Racing were on the
schedule. Ryan met most of the staff at 600 and really enjoyed
the opportunity to get some advice from 600 Racing General Manager, and
former Nascar driver, Ken Ragan. Ken passed along some advice
that he gives to his son David; who has obviously used it well in the
Sprint Cup Series this year.
Darrel Krentz (INEX Executive Director ), Ryan Mackintosh and
Ken Ragan (600 Racing G.M.)
A special thank you to Pat Davis for her help with all membership
issues and paperwork and to Darrel Krentz for his warm hospitality. |

Busy Week Ends On Positive Note
Lots of track time and plenty of miles
The
R.M.R. team logged quite a few hours on the road this week with two
trips to Halifax on Thursday as well as on Saturday and Sunday.
The East Coast Karting track was also the location of a practice
Sunday evening .
The #24 R.M.R. Kart took to the track at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday
morning as Ryan Mackintosh took part in the A.M.K.A. annual test and
tune. The Kart performed well with its new Al Meloche powerplant.
The Novice division in A.M.K.A. series will have a field of 12
drivers this year.
Saturday afternoon, Scotia Speedworld was the location of a scheduled
team practice for the #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero. The weather
and track were in perfect condition to test but unfortunately,
mechanical problems kept the Bandolero sidelined for the session.
Scotia Speedworld's Fun Day was the next event on the schedule. 10
Bandolero teams showed up to take full advantage of the opportnity to
practice, socialize and enjoy the Scotia Speedworld hospitality along
with the Legend's teams. The event was a terrific success both on
and off the track. The #24 Casey Concrete Bandolero performed
well and Ryan Mackintosh was able to gain more seat time in the new
ride. Mackintosh had the opportunity to receive some mentoring
from experienced teams as well as from Legends driver Ray Cox Jr. who
could be seen working with the team and young driver.
The team travelled from Halifax to Moncton after the event at Scotia
Speedworld and had an opportunity to run the new black top at East
Coast Karting. Again, the kart performed extremely well and
the team tested the new motor with different gearing and air pressure
comboniations. The new Meloche motor worked well and the kart was
able to turn some very respectable times.

Mackintosh Ready For A New Challenge
 |
11-year-old speedster makes jump to Bandolero racing
AMHERST DAILY NEWS
A young Amherst racer has developed a definite need for speed that has
translated into success on the track.
Ryan Mackintosh, 11, recently completed a successful season with both
the Island Karting Club on Prince Edward Island and the Championship
Kart Racing Association in Moncton.
Now he’s turning his attention to a different challenge in INEX
Bandolero, where he’ll be driving the Number 24 Casey Concrete
Bandolero at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax.
“I had a chance to test a bandolero in October in Halifax and I
really liked it. It’s a different challenge, the speed is a
little faster,” Mackintosh said. “It’s sort of like
going from F-1 to NASCAR.”
A racing fan since age seven, Mackintosh entered kart racing through
the help of friend Nathan Kelly and his father, Barry. Racing in the
novice class also gave him the chance to race against his friend, Alex
VanSnick of Amherst, who also had a solid season behind the wheel.
Both Mackintosh and VanSnick took home a lot of hardware at the recent
Championship Cart Association banquet with Mackintosh placing first in
points in the novice division and VanSnick placing third with the
Snickers Racing team.
Mackintosh also took home rookie of the year honours in the novice
points championship with VanSnick named the most improved driver.
Mackintosh was also third in points in the Island circuit and was named
rookie of the year on Prince Edward Island.
“I had a good year. I had a good car and great support from
sponsors,” he said. “They gave me a lot of support. It took
a lot of hard work and dedication. My dad did a lot of work on the
motor and we had a lot of help with Barry, Rhonda and Nathan
(Kelly).”
Cumberland Honda, Scotsburn Dairy, Canadian Tire, Bradeans, AMA
Marketing, M&S and CIBC Wood Gundy all supported the team along
with Pizza Delight and Shoppers Drug Mart.
Next season, Mackintosh will continue racing in the novice circuit in
three Maritime series, he will compete in 15 Bandolero events in
Halifax as well as other events around the region.

Preliminary plans in works for Amherst Grand Prix
DARRELL COLE -
The Amherst Daily News
AMHERST – While Amherst may not exactly be a hotbed for racing, a trio of young
Amherstonians are working to change that.
Nathan Kelly, Ryan Mackintosh and Alex Vansnick are nearing the end of the season
in the Maritime karting circuit and all three have quickly made names for themselves
across the region.
Kelly, who is in his fourth season of racing, is a member of the Honda junior
four-stroke tour, placed first in his class last year and while bad luck and
some mechanical difficulties have caused him some problems this year he’s hoping
for a strong finish.
“There’s a few races left in the Maritime Pro Kart and the Island Kart Club and
I’m hoping for a strong finish in both,” Kelly said.
He’s presently battling for top spot on the Prince Edward Island circuit and
is near the top in the Maritime standings, presently battling for third place.
He also raced in Quebec placing second in the Vega Cup while also participating
in the nationals in Hamilton, Ont.
While Kelly is a veteran racer, both Mackintosh and Vansnick are rookies to the
circuit, but are quickly enjoying success with Vansnick’s Snicker's racing team
sitting near the top in the Maritime circuit while Mackintosh is enjoying success
racing out of Moncton and Prince Edward Island.
MacKintosh is presently first place in the novice division in Moncton while VanSnick
is in third in the Maritime novice circuit.
The 11-year-old Vansnick got into racing because it’s something he can do with
his father, Rick, while MacKintosh, who’s also 11, was introduced to racing by
Kelly.
“I really like it because it’s fast,” Mackintosh said. “I like the competition
and trying to win each race.”
Vansnick has enjoyed a lot of early success on the track including several top
three finishes and he’s hoping to continue to get better and isn’t ruling out
continuing racing for many years.
“This is something I’d like to do for a long time. It’s lots of fun and it’s
very fast,” Vansnick said.
There’s also a chance the three local racers may be able to showcase their talents
in front of the home crowd next year.
Preliminary work has begun on a street race in Amherst as part of the Maritime
circuit.
The Amherst Grand Prix would also include a number of other events including
a car show.
