Mackintosh Balancing The Challenges Of School and Racing

Kannapolis,NC

The challenges facing Canadian driver Ryan Mackintosh every week at the track are substantial. Racing against the best drivers in the sport in his divisions week in and week out requires Mackintosh to bring his A-game to the track every time.

Being 14 years old and living away from home for the second school year also comes with challenges. Mackintosh completed 8th grade while homeschooling last year in North Carolina. This year he is enrolled as a Freshman at First Assembly Christian School in Concord, NC.  Although racing puts a great deal of pressure on his scheduling, Mackintosh has maintained an average of over 95% during his first semester.

"The school is great," commented Mackintosh in a phone interview from Kannapolis. "The teachers are really good and it is fun to be challenged in the classroom."

Mackintosh's plans are to continue at FACS for his sophmore year while continuing to race for Chris Woods Racing. The team plans to race fulltime in the Allison Legacy South Touring Series next season.

Great Day At The Rock

Rockingham, NC

"I am happy with our day all around", stated Chris Woods Racing Co-owner "Woody" Woods from the garage at Rockingham Speedway.

The CWR team had 5 cars in action on the day with Ryan Mackintosh piloting the #03 Scotia Hyundai Bandolero Outlaw and the #03 Allison Legacy on the 7/10 mile road course at historic Rockingham.

The INEX Bandolero event was the final of 3 races to determine the Rockingham Road Wars 2010 Champion. Ryan Mackintosh entered the race in 2nd behind the #92 of Reid Wilson.  Wilson qualified his car on the pole after leading wire to wire in the qualifying heat with Mackintosh bringing the #03 from 7th place to 3rd.

Mackintosh and Wilson quickly got out infront of the rest of field and battled hard for the nearly 7 mile feature. With three to go Mackintosh was able to pass Wilson and hold on for the win.

The finish tied both drivers for the points lead in the series with Mackintosh taking first place on the basis of the tie-breaker, most wins.

The team had no time to celebrate as they quickly turned their attention to the Allison Legacy event. Ryan Mackintosh had qualified the car on the outside of row 3 for the event.

Mackintosh battled a fuel uptake problem all race but was able to maintain the pace and finish the race in 6th place.

"The car handled great",commented Mackintosh after the race. "The set up was excellent and we may have grabbed a few more spots but the fuel issue hurt us a little. Woody and Brodie (MacQuarrie) did a great job on the car" "I am happy with the finish and I am looking forward to next season in the Legacy".

Chris Woods Racing driver Ashley Caldwell also took home Championship hardware for the team. Caldwell won two races in the series on her way to bringing home the Bandolero Bandit Championship trophy.

2nd Place Finish Road Wars Round #2

Rockingham, NC

Amherst, Nova Scotia's Ryan Mackintosh drove his Scotia Hyundai Bandolero to a 2nd place finish at Rockingham Speedway. The race was the second event of the "Rock's Road Wars Series" on the track's road course.

The #03 qualified 3rd in the heat and ran the car upfront all race. Mackintosh was able to get a few looks at the lead but in each case the eventual race winner was able to block the move.

Mackintosh's finish, unofficially, puts him in second place after two events. Sunday's 2nd place finish followed up a 5th place from the previous week.

PEI's Brodie MacQuarrie crossed the line in 4th place but was awarded 3rd and a podium finish after some post race incidents and some DQs. Unfortunately, for the second straight week altercations broke out in the garage area after the race. Sources have indicated that race director and promotor Ollie Spain will be handing out further penalties by mid week.

Next week will see driver Ryan Mackintosh do double duty with round #3 of Road Wars and with the entry of the #03 Scotia Hyundai Allison Legacy Car into the A.L.S. Southern Touring Series also being held on the Rockingham Road Course.

Road Wars At Rockingham

Rockingham,NC

The #03 Scotia Hyundai Bandolero struggled in practice and in the qualifying heat before coming to life in the feature at Rockingham on Sunday.

Amherst's Ryan Mackintosh was able to avoid the early race incidents between the #4 car and the #20 car and was able to work his way to the front of the pack on the Rockingham Road course. The next half dozen laps saw a see-saw battle between the #03 and the #92 of Reid Wilson. The battle came to an end as both cars collided in the tough right hander transitioning from the oval at Rockingham back to the infield roadcourse. Mackintosh ended up on his side before making contact with the sliding #92.

The #03 was able to work his way back to the front late in the race before the red flag was shown after PEI's Brodie MacQuarrie rolled his #1 Hooter of Concord car multiple times. MacQuarrie was uninjured and the race was restarted. As the field prepared to take a green white checker finish the #03 was unable to refire due to some damage incurred earlier in the race.

Chris Woods Racing driver Casey Hillenburg was able to take advantage of the late race restart and move his #08 Bandolero to the front and take the win on his home track.

The Road Wars series will continue next Sunday at the famed Rockingham where Chris Woods Racing will try to go back to victory lane.
