Fourth At Concord

Concord, NC

The Chris Woods Racing Team experienced a great deal of up and downs at the half mile of Concord Motor Speed.

The team was second fastest in the practice sessions in Ryan Mackintosh's first laps on the unique Concord layout.

In qualifying the Amherst, Nova Scotia driver had a fast lap going before tagging the wall coming out of the final turn. Mackintosh reacted and the car turned and hit hard into the inside wall 30 yards from the finish line and slid along the wall and crossed the time line backwards, qualifying 6th.

In the race Mackintosh twice was involved in incidents and had to go to the back of the pack. With 26 to go there was a long green flag run which allowed the #03 Scotia Hyundai/Powerworks Legacy to move forward. By the final lap Mackintosh had driven up to 4th and took his second top 5 finish of the season.

Robbed At Bowman Gray

Winston-Salem, NC

Normally a driver would be happy with a podium finish at one of the most prestigious races of the year but this was not the case with Ryan Mackintosh this past Saturday night. Mackintosh picked up third place after leading every lap of the race and surviving multiple restarts including a green-white-checker.

"This was our race to win and the #13 car decided he would run right through us",commented a frustrated Mackintosh in a post race interview.

The 13 car made heavy contact with the #03 on both the final restarts but the most damage was done the Chris Woods Racing car when the #13 car slammed into the Canadian driver on the last caution bending the axle.

Team members were also extremely upset by the actions on the track due to the fact that the #13 would not have even made the race if they had not been loaned a motor from Chris Woods Racing earlier in the day after blowing their own motor.

Additional salt ended up being rubbed in the wound after the checkered flag as the #13 turned the race winner, Walker Yates, in frustration and caused a three car pile up which collected the #03 in a spectacular crash.

Mackintosh will be back in action in the Allison Legacy Touring Series this coming Saturday at Concord Speedway.

Recap From Florence

Timmonsville, SC

Amherst, Nova Scotia native, Ryan Mackintosh, was on track at Florence Motor Speedway Saturday evening. The Chris Woods Racing driver was behind the wheel of the Pizza Delight / Scotia Hyundai Allison Legacy car.

After some good practice sessions Mackintosh qualified the car in 8th place while experiencing some ignition or fuel intake issues. "The car was better than that but we had to go from the 8th position",stated 15 year old Canadian driver.

Mackintosh was able to move up to 3rd early in the race with some of the front runners encountering trouble. Mackintosh restarted in third, after the first race caution. On the restart the #03 was shuffled to the outside and could not get back to the bottom until he was in 10th place. The battle was on from there with the #98 car of Ian Issringhaussen. Mackintosh and the #98 battle for 30 plus laps with the Canadian getting by with 4 laps to go only to be turned by the #98 on the next restart.

Mackintosh commented in a post race interview,"it was not the day we wanted. The car was good and we just couldn't get track position. We ended up using up the tires racing hard at the back and it would have made more sense to hook up and try to move to the front."

Mackintosh will be taking part in the Charlotte Motor Speedway Summer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday night.

A Rare Weekend Off

Kannapolis, NC

The Chris Woods Racing team is experiencing something that doesn't happen often. A weekend off from racing.

"It will be nice to spend the holiday weekend with family and friends", commented driver Ryan Mackintosh.

The team isn't racing but that certainly does not mean they won't be busy. The Hickory race saw the #03 Allison Legacy sustain a great deal of damage from a drive train failure in practice and a t-bone hit to the front end during the race.

Crew Chief Woody Woods laughed,"there wasn't too many things we haven't had to change on the car."

The team has had to replace the front clip and suspension earlier this week.

The Summer Shootout will be back in action Monday and Tuesday nights this week. The team has the #03 Scotia Hyundai Bandolero ready for action.  Last week's event was washed out with rain and thunder storms moving into the area but not before round one of qualifying took place. Rounds 4 and 5 go at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Monday and Tuesday nights. The action can be followed on LegendsNation.com, with live updates, and you can relive the action, starting in September, on SPEED TV.

Woods stated,"it was great to get help from a lot of the teams."  The #03 was able to make the feature but had to start on the tail.

Mackintosh drove the car up to 8th on lap 14 but then suffered another issue in the rear end causing the car to spin. "From that point on the car wasn't right',commented Mackintosh in a post race interview.

On lap 32 Mackintosh spun for the third time and collected the #10 of Ben Klatt ending the night for both drivers.

Team Co-owner Chris "Woody" Woods stated,"It would have been good to see how our car would have done on a dry track but it is good to get back to the top 3"

4 time winner, Tyler Hill, suffered electrical problems and wasn't a factor in the outcome. Jantzen Stirewalt was fast all race and was able to take the lead and take the win in the 50 lap event. John Hunter Nemechek picked up second with Dale Ogburn holding onto 3rd.

Mackintosh battled from the back and was awarded the "Hard Charger" award for the race.  The Amherst, Nova Scotia driver commented,"I was glad we were able to come up from the back but it was tough because I had to use up a lot of the car moving ahead" Mackintosh continued, "I think we could have picked up even more if we would have been able to qualify."
